We are really soaking up the Mediterranean lifestyle. Early mornings, long, lazy evenings and of course the inevitable siesta. Our day begins with our coffee, made by Lucia. Initially, I asked for "coffee with milk", in Croatian , expecting a latte. Instead, we received two short macchiatos and two glasses of cool, clear water . That is definitely the upside of "lost in translation ".
On Tuesday, we caught the Jadrolinija ferry to Korcula for the day. The ferry stopped at Vela Luka, the western port of the island and from there we took the bus to Korcula town , on the eastern tip. Just the bus ride was fantastic , winding our way through sleepy stone villages , olive groves and vineyards. At one point, we had to squeeze past a stationary bus with literally scant inches to spare! I was ready to clap but no one else thought it was out of the ordinary...
Korcula is stunning, surrounded by 15th century towers and the remaining defensive walls, all against the backdrop of the mountains of the Peljasac peninsula. We took our time over another seafood lunch on the waterfront and spent the afternoon wandering the marble streets and trying to take in the renaissance and gothic architecture.
It just gets better every day. While I write this, I am sitting on the balcony, sipping on my red wine and water and gazing at the view . Ten minutes ago, I leapt up, convinced I had seen a shark! But no, silly me, this is paradise, it was a pair pof dolphins in the cove.
The people are warm and friendly and so polite.
The food is a amazing, fish pâté , pickled wild capers , Mediterranean salad, fresh grilled fish .
Everyone seems to be a water baby here, young and old. Speaking of which, I can see the dolphins again, we are off for a dip....
