Life in Oz!
Happy St. Patrick's Day! They celebrate it here too and a few people were up making noise by 7:45am because they wanted to start partying. I managed to sleep until just before 10 and then got up and went to the library. I did some research for my paper but couldn't type it because my computer wouldn't charge when I plugged it in. So I got bored and came back to my apartment. I was hoping to get at least some of it typed but I got lazy sat around talking to Craig most of the afternoon. I walked around looking for people but not many people were around anymore. I went to the pavilion later on and there were a few people down there to talk to but not many. I drove again! This time we went all the way to Woolworth's and I didn't hit anything. Everything is opposite inside the car, but at least I remembered which side the indicator was on this time. I don't like right turns because you have to stop and look for oncoming traffic and make sure you end up in the right...well left...lane.
I had a request for some Aussie slang so here what I can think of....
arvo=afternoon/evening,
meals (especially supper) are tea,
you don't call someone, you ring them,
jelly=jell-o,
vegemite is good - peanut butter and jam is not (I beg to differ),
hire=rent (a car),
tellie=TV,
footpath=sidewalk,
I don't go to school or college - I go to Uni,
everyone is you mate,
shopping trolley=shopping cart,
the last letter of the alphabet is zet and it's a zebra, not a zeeebra,
you walk on the left side of the footpath, just like you drive on the left side of the road,
zebra stripes=crosswalk,
they say reckon...a lot,
no worries mate=not a problem,
cinema=movie theatre,
you don't go for a swim or take a shower- you have a swim or have a shower,
car park=parking lot,
I haven't met one person that likes Bush...or has a very good view point on the states in general.
