Torrential rain in the night found a weak point in the roof letting water in by one of the skylights. Nick W removes the inner frame and finds the leak which he temporarily repairs with tank tape. Grete walks into town and returns with a large caramel and cream eclair that we share with coffee.
Amidst all this we pause for a two minute silence in respect of Remembrance Day.
The sun is out as we leave La Reole and follow rge picturesque route to Monsegur, where we see more yellow vines, cattle and a couple of kestrels sitting on telegraph wires. We intended to stop in Duras. The castle look magnificent in the sunshine as we approach but we get there, there is a foir or fair taking place and it's heaving with people and not a parking spot to be seen.
Driving through towns and villages, many have war memorials decorated with flowers and flags; the French tri-colour obviously, and the European flag [whose members fought or supported France in various measure] but not a single British, Canadian or American flag to be seen.
We continue up the route we came down a few days ago, to the fuel station at Pineuilh for N+G to get LPG before crossing the river and stopping in the little aire in Ste Foy le Grande for coffee. It's a pretty enough spot but we fancy somethng better for a stopover so we drive alongside the river Dordogne, seeing brilliant autumnal reflections on its still surface, through Le Felix and on to a Passion at St Pierre de Eyraud where we park next to an artificial lake.
Trees of heaven glow a fiery red on the bank while egrets glide in to land and roost. The lake is stocked with carp for anglers and we see the occasional ripples on the surface as the feed.
The owners arrive in their car and say we can stay as long as we like.
There is a brilliant moon rise before we close up and have a picky-bits dinner of quiche, salads and special breads which Grete bought in the bakery this morning.
