Mary*Lou's aircon has been a bit iffy for a few days now. Last night with good wifi we found a garage in Limoges. We only have the name of the industrial zone but that should be enough. Long straight roads for much of the 65 mile trip, with some hills and woods on the final 20. We find the industrial zone and finally see a huge sign for the garage but cannot find it. After tootling about we find another 'Kwik-Fit' type of garage but they can't help until next week so we give itup and drive 18 miles back to Bellac. On the way into town we see a repair shop. They can't help either but suggest another garage in town.
We park under trees near an old stone bridge. As we are getting out a VW camper with Cornwall flags on its bumper parks beside us. Tom and Nadia come from Truro and are travelling with daughters to their parents in Limousin. We leave them to play in the park and climb the steep hill into town. It's a charming place and in the main square we find a shady bar and have a drink. The buildings are solid stone affairs, some with ornate woodwork.
We wander through the heat to the other garage but he only does MoTs. Back in the town we find the TI office. The lady is helpful, looks up a motorhome specialist and prints off the details. She even rings them and manages to make us an appointment for tomorrow. Where? The same industrial park we drove around this morning!
In the steep and narrow old quarter we find ancient houses with small doors and decorative detailing.
The plan was to return to the van and BBQ the steak we bought earlier, but first we want to walk through the park. A shallow river, tainted red, probably from the nearby hand-tanning leather works, runs down to the Roman bridge. Over the bridge is a bar, with a Morgan car casually parked on the riverbank.
A glass of wine in the sun? Why not. Gradually we realise everyone is speaking some form of English; or Welsh, Canadian and Cockney. It is such alovely scene, with ducks floating in the river, we decide the steak can wait and we order a burger and second glass of wine.
During the evening more vans arrive, one of them relying on Ali to explain to an English family playing in the park, that their car is parked in the camping-car bays and Pierre would like them to move. They do so willingly and apologetically.
