My Camino Journey
After last nights celebrations and an extremely comfortable hotel bed I didn't wake up until 9am this morning... And was just a little sad that I didn't have to put my backpack on and walk..... Sonia, Phil, Ralph and myself met back at the cathedral at 10.30am to go inside, take photos and enjoy he mass service which was on. The cathedral is amazing, beautiful sculptures and paintings everywhere. The service was in Latin and there were 5 priests in attendance, each doing their part. It was weird for me because whenever I have been to masses you must be quiet and respectful, here there were groups of people being ushered around in tour groups, they weren't particular noisy but to see so many people walking around during a church services was a little weird. Once they started the communion we left and continued looking out of the main section and then into the souvenir section.... After we were finished in the cathedral we said our goodbyes to Ralph, he was staying in Santiago for 6 days, but we had to go back to the hotel, check out and get to the train station. Ralph has walked the whole way from St Jean with Phil and Sonia they have had their ups and downs but after 32 days you could tell it was hard to say goodbye. Even I have built a good friendship with Ralph in the short weeks I have known him, he is one of a kind and I will miss our banta. We checked out of the hotel at 12.30pm, Sonia and phil had train tickets for 2.30pm so we decided we would do a quick clothes shop and something to eat, the train station was only 10 minutes away. Sonia and I went off together and Phil went to a different stor on his own. The first store we went to Sonia and I ended up both buying jeans, top, jacket and shoes... It was unbelievable, I am never that lucky to get that much in one shop.... So exciting, and all for less than $150aud We met phil at a cafe and he had also had a great shop, coming out with jeans, 2 tops, shirt and boots..... We didn't look like pilgrims anymore. We had a quick bite to eat and then went to the train station. I hadn't brought a ticket yet but thought I would be able to get one without an issue. We arrived at 2pm and had a tearful goodbye, Sonia and Phil are amazing. I know I have made friends for life with them and will certainly see them soon enough but it was still hard to say goodbye and I think that was the moment I realised the Camino was over. I lined up thinking I would buy a ticket for the 3.15 train...... No luck, ere are no seats available on the train and the next one is tomorrow at 6am..... I brought a ticket for that one and then went back outside to figure out what I was going to do until then.... There was an Albergue about 5 minutes walk from the train station so I went ere and got a bed, for 14€ at least it was cheap... And on the upside now I could go back out shopping and go to Zara which we ran out of time to do.... I wandered around Santiago for the rest of the day popping into shops and buying a few bits and pieces, I got a few more souvenirs as well and for dinner had my favourite Pulpo and vino Tinto. Early to bed now cause I have to be up at 5am to catch this dame train....
