My Camino Journey
Today felt a little weird, not only did I not have to walk 25 or more kms, I was also back on my own for the first time in a few weeks. I said my farewells to Sonia and Phil yesterday afternoon and haven't seen anyone I know since then. I got up at 5am packed my stuff and was at the train station by 5.45am to catch my 6am train to Madrid. Considering it was so early there were al lot of people on the train, some where pilgrims with backpacks but also a lot of normal travellers and locals. While is was still dark I put my headphones in and fell asleep listening to my music. It's a 5 hours train ride so I was glad to be able to sleep for a few of those. As the sun came up I looked out the window to a sight that was very familiar to me, wheat fields. We were back in Leon territory which is hotter and dryer than Galicia which is where Santiago is. It made me think of the first couple of weeks when I was walking in super hot weather by myself and although at the time I thought it was so hard and at time boring I now look back on it fondly and for a moment while I was on that train i really wanted to get out there and start walking again. I arrived in Madrid at 11.05am and not having eaten anything yet was headless to say starving. So I found the closest bar and order a cafe con leche and a bocodillo with ham and cheese, which hit the spot nicely. I also arranged some accommodation and goggled the address, I was an hour walk from the train station, which now is nothing for me, I had no other plans for the day and would be happy for the short walk. I arrived 20 minutes before check in which was nice and the hotel looked great, I have had some many different kinds of accommodation in the last month that you really appreciate the good ones haha. The rest of today has been pretty relaxed, I booked my train ticket to Barcelona for Monday, after checking the weather is it raining in Barcelona so I thought I would spend 2 days here in Madrid and soak up as much sun as possible. I have also booked a Segway tour around Madrid tomorrow, I figure I have walked enough and this will be more fun than being stuck on a bus tour. I might even see if I can do the same in Barcelona.... I was hoping to get to go to the beach but with the weather the way it is I am not sure I will be able to... Guess I can save the beach for when I get home, fingers crossed its getting warmer there.
