My Camino Journey
Today is a very significant day in my Camino journey, because I will finally be passing the 100km marker. This is the official point which if walking you have to complete at least the last 100km to be eligible to collect the Compostela (certificate of completion of pilgrimage to Santiago) so far I have completed 627km which I am very proud of and with 4 more days of walking ahead of me I have no reason to believe I won't make it into Santiago on Thursday 06.10.16 Today started out as usual, on the road by 6.30am, our Albergue didn't offer a breakfast or coffee so we decided we would get a few kilometres under our belts before we stopped for coffee. We walked in the dark through Vilei, Barbadelo and Baxan there was no bars open there so we couldn't stop even if we wanted to... 9km in to our trek we were crossing the road and 3 ladies (gypsies) came running in our direction with what looked like surveys.... Sonia told us all to keep walking, don't talk to them and don't let them get near you or touch your backpack... After the relaxing walk it was all a bit intense, Sonia spoke in Spanish to them and then all of a sudden they when running off to the group of people behind us.... Sonia turned back and yelled at the pilgrims behind us to keep walking, don't talk to them. The few people behind us made it across the road and the gypsies kept going in the opposite direction. Once everything had calmed down and we were all walk together again Sonia explained that the gypsies use the survey to distract you and the others rob you from behind out of your backpack, they are so good at it that many people don't even realise until they are miles down the road and go to get their wallets out.... Dodgy bloody gypsies.... We ended up walk just over 12km before coming across an Albergue which was open and offering breakfast, it was amazing we had the biggest cups of coffee and delicious omelette bocadillos. We stayed there for about 40 minutes and were all very satisfied when we were on the road again. With only another 10km to go we knew we would be making town in good time and it was so nice not to be rushed, the weather was fresh but not cold, however there was still a mist or fog lingering which made for some amazing photos, Sonia and I were stopping every 5 minutes to take a picture of some amazing views, plus we even saw a farmer herding his cows to milk and down the road from there a farmer had an emu running up and down a paddock which we thought was extremely unusual for Spain..... We also saw a spooky looking church with a cemetery out the front and plenty of spooky looking paths and trails. We all agreed that Galicia would be the perfect place for a Robin Hood style movie with all amazing paths through the woods. We arrived at our Albergue just after 2pm, did the usual ritual of showers and settle in and then Sonia, Phil and I when to a nice little restaurant for lunch. Now to rest and relax for the remainder of the day... Maybe out later for a vamouth blanko and some olives haha 627km
