My Camino Journey
Today started at 6.30am with a nice breakfast by the hosts of the albergue it was simple but satisfying. Plenty of bread and cold meats and cheese for everyone as well as yoghurt and fruit.... And most importantly coffee. After breakfast and still before the sun came up I was off on the track, I had planned to do 20km today which should mean I get to Tores del Rio around lunchtime. It was a cooler morning which made walking easy and with no towns for the first 12km it made for a quick journey. I briefly stopped at Los Arcos for a bocodillo and coffee (a pilgrims go to meal available everywhere) and then after 20 minutes I was back on the path. I rolled into Sansol just before 12 to find that there was already no beds there.... I started to panic a little bit, if there was no beds in Torres del Rio I would have to walk another 10.6km to Viana and hope for more luck there. As I was hightailing it out of Sansol for the quick 1km journey to Torres del Rio I met an English guy named Chris who was just as concerned as I was, as we were talking a group of 5 started coming up behind us.... Chris suggested that we get a move on in case there was only a couple of beds left in the next town... That last 1km was painful, I has a blister on my little toe from a day ago and now walking faster than I wanted was really putting pressure on it, just a little longer and hopefully I can take my shoes off for the day. Chris and I made it up the steep hill to the first hostel (Albergue) and there was a couple of people standing out front, it officially opened at 12.30, we arrived at 12.20..... With only a couple of people before us we ewe sure to get a room, I was totally relieved. 12.30 on the dot the girl opened the door and we lined up to be assigned beds, there were 20 available and by the time I had been assigned mine and was settling in there was a big line at the desk and within an hour the hostel was full. I have now done all my blister maintenance and I think in a couple of days my toe should be ok, let's hope that is the worst of it.
