My Camino Journey
So today I decided would be a short day for me, after the 28+ km I did yesterday my legs would not appreciate another big day, plus it seemed like it was very busy to get a bed so I thought it best to stop early to ensure I have a place to stay. It was much cooler today and when I stopped for breakfast I met a couple of ladies from Australia, they were catching the bus today because they didn't feel like walking. They have all their accommodation booked for the whole trip and therefore have the extra pressure of getting to a certain destination each day, and although their pack were light they told me they had big suitcases which were being transported to each hotel for them (first class pilgrims haha) so as I left them enjoying their coffees I hightailed it out of town with my fingers crossed I would have a bed when I got to Villamayor. About 2km out of Estella was a stop worth every minute, it was the Fuente del vino (Wine Fountain). The Winery called Bodegas Irache had set up this wine fountain so all pilgrims can fortify themselves for the journey ahead, I only had my water bottle so what else am I to do but empty my water and top it up with wine..... And it tasted delicious as well. There was an Italian couple there and we toasted to good health and a safe journey to Santiago de Compostela. Oh and don't worry, Before I left I washed out my bottle and filled it back up with water, even though it was a short day today I'm not sure I would have made it if I got drunk haha. Today the path was a lot more protected from the sun with big sections lined with tall trees and shrubs, but the path was a lot busier than the last couple of days with a few big groups of bikes passing by, one guy came around the corner so quickly that he nearly crashed into a tree as he tried to avoid hitting me.... Lucky neither of us got hurt, both had a laugh about it and then he was off again at a million miles. I also came across an old guy that was walking with a donkey, and that made me realise you truly can do the Camino however you like, everyone has their own way of getting to Santiago. I am now resting in my bed before dinner at 6.30, my room is small and only has 3 other people in it, so I am hoping that means I will have a good night sleep Today I am grateful for The cooler weather conditions, it was nice not to be a sweaty mess for a change.
