My Camino Journey
So after being out late last night dancing and having fun at the festival I was one of the last people to get out of bed and on the road today... I still got to enjoy the rising of the sun but only just, leaving town at 7.30am. I have a new appreciation for that time of day and enjoy walking as the sun comes up over the hills, the colours reflected in the fields are just breathtaking and I only hope my photos are doing it some sort of justice. I have made friends with the Dutch people after sharing a room with them and 1 other lady the other night, Bert the Dutch guy also was in the same hostel as me last night and when I left this morning he was still sleeping..... But by the time I stopped for a rest at Nuestra Senora del poyo (which is only 2.7km from town however all up hill) he arrived. We rested with others there and then decided that we would walk together for a while, this is actually the first time that I have walked with anyone since I started. Bert is very funny and talks a lot, which takes my mind off the walking which is nice for a change. I noticed today he had a tattoo on his arm of the Olympic Rings and I asked him about it, he used to be a swimmer and was in the 1972 Olympic swim team for the Netherlands, he didn't win any medals but is very proud to have just made the team, which is really impressive. Oh and We both had a laugh at the fact that I wasn't even born when he was at the olympics...... We walked all the way into Viana where we were met by a busy little town getting ready for their festival, which included bull fighting. They had a big pavilion at one end of town and were working on closing off the streets so the Bulls can run through, it was so interesting to watch. We sat and had coffee, then Bert needed to find an ATM and find somewhere with wifi so he could send an email. We wished each other a buen Camino (safe journey) and he was off. I decide I wanted to go into the local cathedral to get a stamp on my pilgrim passport, so off I went. This is the first church I have been in to since starting, and it was a beautiful one. With another 9.4km to go to get to Logrono I hit the road again by 11.30, also had to make sure I was out of town by 12 otherwise it would be locked down for the bull run..... The rest of the day was pretty flat walking and mostly on bitumen which was a nice change from gravel, but was very ******* my blisters.... I got into Logrono early afternoon and started looking for a hostel, because this town was also having a festival it was very busy and the first 2 albergues I tried were full already.... I didn't fancy wandering all over town to find something and was about to walk right passed a normal hotel, I thought I would just try my luck if they has a room..... Bingo, they did and even though it was more expensive I didn't care, it would be nice to have my own room for a night and a shower that you don't have to keep pushing a button every 30 seconds so the water comes out. Another day successfully completed, and I now only have 1 blister causing me problems, so that's a plus also....
