My Camino Journey
With only a few more days to go till we hit Santiago we decided to treat ourselves for our last uphill day and send our backpacks forward. It has been so easy to organise and for only 3€ you just can't pass it up. We were on the road this morning by 6.30am, walking in the dark with head torches has become a great way to get the first 10km smashed out, you can't see anything so your not distracted by all the beautiful views and just walk walk walk... Haha The first breakfast stop was in 7.8km at Gonzar. I had bacon and eggs, which was delicious, and of course a coffee to complete the meal. Back on the road and I noticed that today was very different terrain than yesterday, yesterday was beautiful fields and cobble stone paths with huge trees lining the them which really made it feel mystical, today we are on a path next to a road, open fields and a strong smell of cow dung.... Oh what a difference a day makes..... The uphill wasn't as bad as I initial thought, which made it nicer and easier than I thought... We were co earring really good time, and the fact there wasn't as much amazing scenery meant we weren't stopping as much either haha. Another 5km down the road we stopped in at Capela de Magdalene which was one of the chapels/hospitals for pilgrims hundreds of years ago. This area was also the scene of a fierce battle in 840 between Moors (Muslim) and Christians. The man inside the chapel was blind, but certainly knew if you dropped in your donativo and then grabbed your hand to help stamp your pilgrim passport before you left. The rest of the day was fairly uneventful, walking passed barns with cows being milked, churches and cemeteries. We got into town early (1.30) and had lunch before we checked in to our Albergue. We found this nice restaurant which had amazing paella and wine and were very satisfied by the time we finished. We checked in to our hotel and had the old routine of showers, washing and organising beds. Now time to relax, we are hoping to catch up with Sachi tonight who decided back in Leon to stay an extra day and has been keeping in contact in the hope we can catch up before reaching Santiago.
