My Camino Journey
Today is the first day in over a month that I haven't had to pack my bag up and move to another city. I woke up just before 9am which was also a nice change, I have changed my mindset from pilgrim to tourist and was excited to be heading into town to take part in a 2 hour Segway Tour. I got a Taxi into town and had time for a coffee before the tour, found the office and met Santiago, who was the tour guide.... I couldn't believe it, his name was Santiago!!! I think I was meant to be on his tour haha I have been on a Segway back in 2010 when Michael and I did a tour around Rome, and just like a bike, you never forget how to ride a Segway. I was grouped with an English family of 3, David, Amanda and their Daughter Lucy. Once Santiago was happy we were all ok on the segways we were off... We stopped off at lots of different places and Santiago explained the significance of where we were, we passed the old Royal Bakery, theatre, cathedral, Royal Palace, Parliament Buildings, status of kings, the worlds oldest restaurant ( Restaurante Botin, opened in 1725 and has been running ever since, it's in the Guinness World Records) it was a great tour, informative but not to much info, and we covered a lot of distance which made me glad to be on a Segway. After the tour it was time to eat, I found this nice little cafe and sat outside in the Sun, I ordered the smallest amount of Sangria you could get which was 1 litre and enjoyed people watching for a bit. At one point a young boy came over to my table put what looked like a menu in front of me and started pointing at it, and in my confusion I almost missed what he had done.... As he pulled the menu away from me he had picked up my phone, cheeky *******. I quickly snatched it back off him and pushed him away, I am not sure who was more shocked, him or me. He quickly moved on but while I was checking I still had everything else he tried it on another girl a couple of tables away and actually walked off with her phone, some German guys who www sitting near me and her saw both of this boys attempt and where quick to run after him, they got the girls phone back, but she didn't even realise at first..... We were so lucky... Bloody gypsies. Needless to say I was paranoid for the rest of the day about my stuff.... Once I finished my litre of Sangria I went and found the adidas store, I was only a block and a bit away from it so I just couldn't help myself.... I chatted to one of the guys there Jose, he told me this store was a franchise and that he would love to come to Australia and work for adidas there.... Haha who wouldn't right!! I brought myself a pair of NMD's which are hard to get your hands on in Australia, no so in Spain, in fact they were even on special...... I spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around he streets looking in shops and just enjoying the weather. By 6pm I was getting hungry again so I went back to Mercado de San Miguel which we has passed on the Segway tour, this place was amazing for all Spain cuisine, you can get everything here, I ended up having paella, churros with chocolate dipping sauce and then finished with an ice cream... Don't worry they were only small servings of each haha By the time that was all done it was nearly 7pm, I just need to do one mo thing high I have never done in my life and that's hail a cab from the street (New York style) and what do you know that was easy as well, I am really getting the hang of this looking after myself thing haha. Spoke to the cabbie in very bad Spanish/English (mostly English cause I only know about a dozen words of Spanish) and I was on my way back to the hotel. Made it back safe and sound and now relaxing in my room, my train to Barcelona is at 2pm tomorrow so I don't need to rush in the morning..... Ahhhhhh another sleep in.
