My Camino Journey
Today is Spanish National Day..... Who knew... Not me I woke late and by the time I got out it was already 11am, I wanted to head down to La Rumbla which is a street full of shopping and restaurants and bars, I didn't get to check it out yesterday. But on my way there I see police blocking roads and can hear music and load talking over a PA system, so I change direction to see what this commotion is all about. I get to the main square where all the activity is and there is dancing in traditional costumes and people in the streets with Spanish flags wrapped around them. It was an awesome atmosphere, I quickly found out that it was Spanish national day and it was a public holiday. I wandered around for ages enjoying the festivities and thought to myself how lucky I was to be experiencing this by pure coincidence. After a while I thought I would head down to La Rumbla as first planned, I was getting hungry and wanted to see as must as I could before the weather turned to bad. The unfortunate part was because it was a public holiday not everything was open, I was a let o get something to eat, but a lot of the bigger shops were closed... Maybe that was a blessing in disguise and saved me money but I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to see it in full swing. By the time 1pm rolled around it started to rain lightly and I thought I better make tracks back to my hotel before it got real serious, I was about a kilometre from my hotel so I just walked, covered mostly from the rain by the buildings and trees. I got Back to my hotel and started packing my stuff, I would be catching a taxi at 7.30am tomorrow and didn't want to be panicking in the morning trying to pack..... As I was packing the rain really settled in and became quite heavy, I was glad that I didn't get stuck in that. I fluffed around all afternoon packing and sorting my **** out as the rain continued outside, then I realised I was hungry and would have to go out to find something for dinner... I knew there era a couple of restaurants just around the corner, fingers crossed they would be open... I put my rain coat on and headed out, the restaurants were only 2 minutes away and I literally walked into the first one I came across. I ate dinner, which included my last order of Pulpo in Spain and then headed back to the hotel. I was all packed up and decided it had to be an early night for me, it was still raining heavy so no way I could have gone out and done anything anyway....
