Drove to Mareeba and visited Jaques coffee plantation where we toured and learned all about harvesting coffee plants. They have built their own automatic harvester and each plant harvests roughly 1kg of coffee for resale ($29.00 per kilo).
After a wake up coffee we visited Mango Drop winery. The wines are made using a whole mango and processed the same as grape wine-we sampled quite a few and some were surprisingly nice (not sickly sweet as we had first assumed)!
After a bbq (without the bbq) lunch, we visited Coffee Works which is a coffee & chocolate plantation. We repeatedly sampled the free Lemon Myrtle chocolate samples which were sensational!
A visit to Granite Gorge nearby proved to be the highlight of the trip. Winding our way through the bush tracks and climbing over the steep granite boulders. Tiny rock wallabies greeted us and allowed us to pat them in the hope they would get a treat.
A freezing cold river ran around, under and over the huge boulders and was very refreshing, especially when we returned from our adventurous trek!
Highlight today: Granite gorge.
