Up very early this morning and boarded our 4wd adventure tour bus.
We crossed over the infamous 'Croc infested' Daintree river on the ferry, then drove through the tropical green jungle of the Daintree Rainforest- also spotted a bright blue Ulysses butterfly!!
The Daintree is world heritage listed and ticks all four criteria required for this listing.
It contains millions of different species including Tree Kangaroos, Cassowary, Tarantulas, Crocodiles and the Taipan (worlds most deadly snake).
We travelled through Cape Tribulation and travelled the 4wd only Bloomfield Track- made famous due to hippie protesters chaining and burying themselves in protest of the track (for many days). Apparently it made worldwide headlines fir the large scale protest and had the opposite effect and generated the tourist boom!
Lunch was at the Lions Den hotel, an old pub since the 1870's and covered with floor to ceiling memorabilia on the walls.
Cooktown was very basic, But much much prettier than we expected!
We caught a 12 seated charter plane home and enjoyed views over the barrier reef on sunset.
Once back in Cairns, we toasted a great day and our 3 year anniversary with a bottle of Champagne and a pizza.
Highlight today: Flight over the reef, Champagne and pizza!
