Walked into Mooloolaba via the boardwalk along the beach. Beautiful, sunny day around 21degrees as per usual.
Drove further up the coast to visit the Big Pineapple but it apparently went into receivership in September.
Visited the Buderim Ginger factory had an interesting tour through the working plant.
Ginger is similar to a deformed Potatoe and grows underground with only corn like leaves above ground (like a garlic plant).
The Ginger is washed, chopped then cooked in water, then water and sugar added to make Ginger syrup.
Once strained the Ginger is used in confectionary, cooking etc and the syrup for Ginger beer type products.
To plant more Ginger just snap off a piece and re-plant it!
Due to the floods this years Ginger plants got a nasty fungus and it is estimated to have destroyed nearly 50% of the yield!
We also visited a Macadamia processing plant but it was very limited for experiences.
Drove along the coast visiting beaches looking for a nice overnight stay and ended up in Sunrise Beach which is a bit 'la-de-da'.
Highlight today: Ginger Factory and the tasting plater!
