Had a tour through the Bundaberg Rum Distillery. The smell approaching the site was 'sickly sweet' but still bearable. There was a large storage pool holding around 600,000 liters of warm Molasses (smelt yummy like licorice) which is used in the Rum process. For every 700ml bottle, 1litre of Molasses is used. Childers has a lovely main street but everything else is very run down and feral. There was no sites available at the caravan parks because of the overload of backpackers to the area. Childers is famous for it's fruit and vegetable picking. It's also famous for the back packer accommodation burning down and killing 15 people. A man was convicted of starting the fire deliberately.
