Went out for breakfast early this morning and them took to the Hwy and continued on our journey.
Drove through the cyclone hit town of Cardwell which is slowly recovering. Lots of trees still lining the beaches and remain fallen throughout the town. Several damaged houses and sheds. It was sad and bought tears to our eyes (we were also listening to a sad DIDO song at the time...)
At Ingham we bought lunch at a Pie shop (scallop pie & steak/kidney) and ate in the park. Someone had put detergent into the fountain and it was overflowing with bubbles....
Driving north from Ingham, the scenery was spectacular! Enormous mountains surrounding sugar cane fields, blue sparkling rivers intertwining through the valleys (not the usual muddy brown ones). The change in the forest, plants and colors of the landscape was very unexpected but fantastic!
In Tully we checked out the Big Gumboot. This was awarded to the town who had the most rainfall, the boot height was made to the same height that the water rose too in 1950 (Australian record).
Highlight today: view from the mountains!
