Packed a picnic and headed off to Kuranda to explore.
On the way we stopped in at Lake Placid which was very eerie (thanks to the movie and all the croc warnings). Visited Barron Gorge, Barron Falls and then Kuranda.
Found a 'bat sanctuary' which was amazing. The lady who runs it rescues orphaned and injured bats and looks after them till they are better.
She had several different breeds and they came to her when she called their names (more intelligent than dogs apparently). Very, very cute animals!
The Kuranda markets were disappointing with all the same crappy tourist souvenirs.
When we got back to Cairns we found a large fresh fruit and vegetable market. Lots of fresh produce including some less common varieties such as Taro, Permillo, Ocra, Chinese Broccoli, Asian herbs etc
Highlight today: Walk to the Barron Falls lookout and the fresh produce market.
