Drove to Malanda and had a tour of the Narada Tea plantation which was fascinating!
We had no idea how tea was made or even seen a tea plant before, I guess because Narada is the only Australian tea manufacturer.
Tea plants are small bushy plants however only the very top tips of the plant are used (2 leaves per plant!).
After the Tea tour we went on a walk through the rainforest at Malanda Falls. In the rainforest we were on the lookout for Tree Kangaroos and cautious of the stinging plants (stinging plants don't have a treatment and can sting for months). When we stopped at the river, 10 turtles scooted over to greet us-very cute!
On our drive to Atherton we stopped at the Curtain Fig Tree which is the most amazing tree I have ever seen (pictured).
At Atherton we wanted to see the 'Empress of Uraguay' which is the worlds largest Amethyst but it had closed for the day so we learnt about 'Geodes' instead (Geodes are mined in Mexico- it is a round rock that when split in half, is full of crystals).
Highlight today: blown away by the Curtain Fig Tree, it was amazing!
