This morning we all felt suprisingly fresh. Luca, flo, dee and I headed into the old quarter to a place called 'simplest things' and had breakfast. I had an omlette and a green tea! We were chatting and generally laughing about our night. Luca was wondering where he got the burn mark on his leg and i suddenly remember him leaning against the exhaust on a motor bike and saying 'what on earth this motorbike just attacked me!!', while hopping on one leg and trying to blow cool air on his calf. Priceless.
After breakfast we discussed plans. We've all got on so well and want to have a trip together. Dee is leaving for
Cambodia on Sunday so it will just be Luca, flo and I but that's grand. We have decided we are going to hoi'an. A 17 hour bus ride away but everyone says it's incredible. It's surrounded by beaches, white sand with crystal clear water and sun! We will book that tomorrow. After breakfast we picked up dees visa for Laos and then headed back to the ranch. We all chilled and I sorted out my washing. One of the wick things about travelling is wearing the same clothes all the time! They start to bore you senseless! I was complaining about this then Luca told me Hoi'an is a place where people get clothes tailor made, designed and fitted for a pittance. I checked it out online as I Didnt really believe it, and right enough you can take in your own designs and for 10 USD you can get them custom built. I might design a nice day dress!
7 o'clock came and we had some dinner down at the cafe for free. I had rice, egg, tofu, chicken and greens. It's defo tasty for free food! We got ready in the appartment and listened to some music. Now the scary part! We hailed a cab and told the driver old quarter. His English was terrible and he ended up taking a far out. I got out my phone and showed him a picture of st James cathedral which has saved me on numerous occasions. On the way back cars were flying past us, the driver was right behind mopeds, nearly hitting pedestrians. Dee said in English he needed to be more careful or we were getting out. The thing is this is the culture out here, everyone is so used to driving senselessly that everyone is aware of the dangers and know how to adapt their driving. It's so mental. On my motorbike I go on quite roads and don't go near traffic, so I'm ok.
We got to the old quarter and went to Hanoi backpackers again and got some beers. Luca was sweating so much his shirt had turned a different colour, and he said 'oh my goodness I just spilt a drink all over this shirt how clumsy of me'. That was the story to cover his sweat! Haha. We were standing outside the backpackers and we spotted jonny, josh , Aiden, Cameron, chris and Anton. Chris is a police officer from London and his behaviour is absolutely horrendous that I nearly passed out when I heard he was a police officer. Cameron is an Aussie who looks like the typical Australian surfer. Long blonde hair, blue eyes and a TAN. But also ridiculously stupid. Standard!
The gang headed to half man half noodle and I realised I was developing a Severe distaste for Anton. He is a short little pretentious man from 'upstate newyork' who cannot listen to anything without adding his two sense. I very rarely dislike people and try to get on with everyone, but this guy is intolerable. It was particularly hilarious when he was educating me on the 'Shonkill' bomb and 'bloody Friday'. What a p****
I drank some more to numb my mind from Anton then we starting tune requesting. I got talking to a couple at the bar who were lovely. Sophie is a Japanese girl who just married an Irish guy. He's out here teaching English . Just while we were talking I over heard pretentious Anton saying 'yeah well in reality Japan really did mess up I mean come on, they suck' . Dear god. Time for the floor to open up and let me crawl in and never resurface. Sophie was wondering what He was talking about and I tried my best just to diffuse the situation. I went back to my table and told Anton to keep down because he was offending people. He replied 'I can say what I want' to which Aiden said 'don't speak to her like that'. Nice!
Dee and Luca and flo came back from dancing and joined the group. We then decided our plans and decided it was time to go to lighthouse, an underground club. Anton said he was too tired and all I could think was what a horrific shame that was. We all grabbed a moped each and told the driver lighthouse. The place was cool! One area had a pool table and the other was a standard club. We danced away and tried to get Luca to dance but I don't think he was feeling this place! Luca left so the rest of us had dance offs. We found a sombrero hat at the bar, so if the sombrero was on your head, you dance.
At around 3am we headed home via taxi. The apartment gates were locked so we had to climb over the fence.
It was like mission impossible, but absolutely hilarious. I have never had so much fun. Hanoi is not only one of the best places I've been, but it is someone
You could easily live. There is absolutely no sightseeing to do, however the general way of life is great. Hoping on a moped for 80p when you need a taxi, sitting on little benches in crowded streets having your dinner and walking through the markets buying tshirts for a pound. I really do love it here and can't wait to show our becky Moore ha long bay.
