Day 24, 3 days left to walk to Santiago, mixed emotions--while I can't wait to get back to family and friends, it will feel strange to not be on the Camino anymore. The rhythym of waking up, packing up our backpacks, walking for an hour or two--following yellow arrows everywhere--then stopping for a café con leche, walking until we need a break or get hungry until mid or late afternoon when we get to our destination for the day, taking a shower, washing out necessary clothes by hand (usually), finding something for dinner, and early to bed. The best part of every day is passing and being passed by and sitting down to have a drink or eat with our Camino friends--literally from all parts of the world. People you think you will never see again will turn up at the next rest stop or albergue. It's like a mini United Nations. I'm convinced that if the world's problems were presented to the pilgrims on the Camino, there would be some amazing solutions. The only competition I've felt is in being kind and thoughtful. That...I will miss the most, but I know that we are returning to some of the most kind and thoughtful people in the world back home--love you all!!
Now the details: 25 km/15.5 miles today, I was tired, not well hydrated (cafe con leches and vino tinto aren't quite enough!)--after lunch we only had 5 more miles, and I kept putting one foot in front of the other, and here we are at our albergue for the night!
