Stage 4 from Cizur Menor to Mañeru--24.1km, 15 miles. We started going up pretty quickly to our breakfast/coffee stop at Zaraquiegui, then more up to the top of the Alto del Perdón (Hill of Forgiveness)--plenty of "up" to come up with our list of sins. The hills are covered with wind turbines, which provide all of the energy for the nearby city of Pamplona, around 200,000 people. They provided a nice humming sound as we were slogging up yet another mountain. Then there was a steep downhill leading to rolling hills of grape vines and olive trees. We had beautiful sunny skies in the 70's today--perfecto! We spent a little time in Puenta la Reina with a huge medieval bridge and our picnic with cheese, ham, and a baguette by the river. The extra 3 miles with 1 mile that felt like straight up at the end today were tough, but we made it! Got some ice and some kinda of cold cream for Clare's knee, which seems to have helped. We are rewarded with an Albergue that is the best so far! Albergue El Cantero--new since May, but in a renovated 1600's building, nice outside seating, bar with beer AND coffee!! Place to wash clothes in the bathroom and adjoining veranda where they can dry on racks. And the owner has offered to make us a salad tonight!
