Tough morning as we left Sahagún in the rain and, although the rain stopped after a bit, we encountered quite a cold headwind for a while. We were still on the bikes today and rode again about 60 km. By lunch the sun was coming out and spirits were rising. We rode up and over some big hills and then descended to the city of León. We checked into an albergue housed in a Benedictine convent, run by nuns. The volunteer who registered us was Seamus from Ireland. We ran into the 2 cyclists from Brazil and George from Italy that we met last week. Several people staying here are just starting the Camino, and they are very excited. After turning in our bikes, we walked around the city and toured the 13th century cathedral with stained glass windows rivaled only by Chartres Cathedral in France. Saturday night in a Spanish city is amazing--John said, "Is anyone at home?" No! Families with strollers, grandparents, and everyone in between are all out walking in the streets, eating, talking, drinking. It's a festive atmosphere!
