Tre's New York Adventure!
Hi guys!
I'm getting a bit slack at updating this and we're only in April! I will give myself a polite kick up the bottom to sort it out!
Time is flying...I can't understand how it is going so quickly. I realise I probably say this to most of you all the time, but the point for it now is that I am struggling to remember what I have done in the past two weeks to fill you in as everything from yesterday backwards is a blur! That was a long sentence. You get the point though... time flying, hard to remember when things happened!
ok... The weather over the weekend was gorgeous. Hot and really sunny. I went over to visit my cousins in Queens for a few hours on Sat, and then on the way back home I went via Central Park (surprise) and spent a lovely evening sat on my rock (which gets hot in the sun!). Very relaxing and perfect as usual. An icecream jumped into my hand so I felt obliged to eat it. The ice-rink has gone now, it's too warm so they convert it into a little fairground over the summer. Then when I got back I had a sushi takeout with Dan, then went for a coffee (frappuccino!) with him and Gareth by the river. What had been warm all day turned to some freezing winds though so we didn't stay out long! Sunday I went with a few others to a Gospel Service in Harlem... only it's obviously a very popular service as the queue for visitors to get into the church went right around the block! We didn't think we stood a chance of getting in, so we went to a different one around the corner; we just wanted to hear some gospel, it didn't really matter where! Only it turned out to not be a gospel one... instead it was just an Easter service with some very odd sounding church organs and a woman who sang an opera solo. Hmmm. But, it was the first church founded by a black community in NY, so at least it was a significant place to see! After that I had a little wander around the city in the sun! I didn't bring my shades, and it was all very bright! So i bought a pair from a street seller for $5... they look alright, but when i wear them the ground seems to move! haha. So people watching me walking will see me taking steps that aren't there, and stepping over things that aren't there. Very strange! I am also laughing at myself as I do it so I'm sure to be taken away by men in white suits in the near future.
Cooked a roast dinner for Easter Sunday which was nice! Ate a bit much though..! Since we had no easter eggs it's ok. They've never heard of Easter Monday out here!? They thought I was just trying to get a day off (me?!). So I found it on Wikipedia just to make a point! We didn't have Good Friday off either, but got to leave work early so it was ok. Except it rained so I went home instead of my plan for a sunny afternoon in the park.
This week is a bad week academic-work wise. It's public speaking week. I don't need to tell any of you how keen i am on that..!
I've bought a ticket for a Twilight Cruise around Manhattan in May which sounds great! It'll just be a party on a boat as it sails around the island... lots of people so will be a good night.
Arvind is here next week which I'm looking forward to! Other than that, need to find a George Bush mask to wear at my roleplay on Saturday! And looking at flights for the long weekend in May. Checking Chicago at the minute, but will be looking at other places too.
This is all a bit ramble, I apologise!
lots of love
Tre
