Tre's New York Adventure!
Hello!
I have already written this entry and then lost it so now I have to write it all again! Stupid computers...!
I spent the long weekend in Washington DC which was great! It was freezing cold but dry and sunny so we got to see it all. We saw all the memorials and monuments, The White House, Capitol, Georgetown... crammed alot in! It was all very grand and definitely worth seeing. The WW2 memorial is very strong and hard hitting. They all stand strong in their own rights though...and together they form some amazing views. Georgetown is a gorgeous quaint postcard-picture kind of town...and with amazing shopping!! We spent Sunday evening there, had a lovely meal and then went for a few drinks. I had a gorgeous pudding after dinner which involved an unthinkable amount of calories and fat! It was a freshly baked giant choc-chip cookie with ice-cream and fresh cream on top drizzled with chocolate sauce. Mmmmmmmmmm!!!!! This was on the same day as my full-on pancake breakfast! (I WILL NOT TURN INTO A FAT AMERICAN! aaahh!)
The subway system there is brilliant! It's meant to be the 'best in the world' (but then I'm sure Americans overuse that phrase..!). But actually it wouldn't surprise me at all if it did come top. So much better than the NY Metro and the London Underground!
The bus ride to DC was only $35 return, it took about 4hours each way. Bit of a bargain!
Next trip will probably be Philadelphia, hopefully in a couple of weeks. Vermont is on my (growing) list too, but apparently it's best to go there in Autumn. Will be visiting Toronto and Chicago at some point, and need to save for a Miami trip! Saving is proving difficult out here though...! Saving the West Coast for a travel month at the end of the internship.
I have a fair amount of assignment work due in next week, and one little report due tomorrow. I keep putting it off but really need to get on with it now. For some reason study just doesn't seem to be a priority over here (!).
Work is good. Apartment is good. Closer friendships... so life is very good! Definitely enjoying myself now. Time is flying by manically! I've been here just over 5 weeks now and have already seen and experienced so much... this year is going to be amazing! Getting a sense though of just how quickly it will be gone, so making sure to make the most of all the time.
Those of you who are coming out to visit - I can't wait to see you and show you life in NY! And those of you who aren't coming - why not! Get planning :)
Take care everyone, will be in touch soon,
Tre
