Title: Tuesday, day 6 at sea.
Today was a great sailing day. We have the genoa about half way out and 1 reef in the mainsail and we are just bounding over the waves. The swells are large enough to surf down but do not pose a danger for breeching.
I had a little confrontation with Captain Barry this morning. He had a problem with how I left the reef I just took in. I was at the helm and he says the halyard's loose. Well, I just came from the mast and the halyard was very tight and secure. So here I am trying to stay on course and trying to figure out what he was talking about.
Anyway, he asked me if I was going to fix it and I said I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong. (and in case you haven't noticed, I'm steering the boat!). So I said, "Why don't you just do it your self.". So he gave me a nasty look and went up and made everything just the way he liked it. He is one of the most impatient men I have ever met. I have really tried to establish a more personal relationship, going out of my way to help him out, but he seems to be totally unappreciative of my efforts. He is totally dependent on his crew to get this boat across the ocean. And we're not asking for a dime.
And then it occurred to me how lucky I am to have a wife that loves me and appreciates me and will be there for me when I get home. Barry has no one. Mirko has no one.
Yes, I am very fortunate and maybe that's what digs at their soul and causes the bitterness to come out so quickly.
