Today was a day that I will never forget-- our last day at Moreau Primary and Nursey School, quite possibly forever. At 11:30 the students would be singing the songs that we taught them. Nursery classes and P1 would be singing Our God is an Awesome God and Shake Shake the Mango Tree! We all made animal headbands for our classes so my class was tigers and with a little addition of eyeliner wiskers, they were ready to go. I finished the alphabet with my students so they officially practiced all of the letters. It was hard to leave because the students finally understood my accent and knew what I was saying.
I gave my teacher her card and gifts for herself and her children which she loved.
At 11:30, everyone piled into my classroom for the performances. The little kids went first and did a wonderful job! They were sooo adorable up there with their headbands. The older kids rocked the room with their three songs as well! After, each class sang farewell songs to Jen, Sarah, and I which had us in tears. In addition, my class sang Miss Susie had a baby and Jesus loves me which we practiced since Day one.
After, we presented Sister Stella and the school with a framed drawing of one of the huts outside from a student in P4 and pencil sharpeners for each rooom. The nurses attended our farewell party and we went to theirs later. One of the teachers described goodbyes at sweet sorrows which is perfect for the end of our journey.
The party----was mad chaos. Every year, the SMC students have been leaving clothing behind for the kids. Therefore, they kind of expect it now which is unfortunate. We had lemonade, fruit punch, and popcorn for the kids. There were games and music going on also. We would bring clothes out to give to each kid but they do not understand the concept of sharing and everyone taking a turn so it turned into kids yelling and reaching for clothes. I felt like a mother at my child's birthday party gone wrong. We were all very frustrated and exhausted after the party and were looking forward to seeing the kids tomororw morning because we didn't want to leave on this note.
That night, we had dinner and cake with the Sisters and exchanging of gifts and presents. Overall, it was a day filled with love and gratitude and tears and smiles.
