This was a short week at the school because we would be leaving on Thursday for our weekend trip to Kampala, Jinja. Teaching the alphabet has been a great addition to my class each day. We are now up to the letter K with only two weeks left. The students LOVE using the dry erase boards because they are something new and exciting to them which makes the overall lesson that much more exciting. My teacher has said that these lessons have rapidly helped them with their handwriting and spelling. The students will come in from porridge, and write letters and words on the chalkboard. You can hear them practicing the alphabet throughout the day. They are getting better and better at the song "Miss Susie" and have mastered "Jesus Loves Me" and "Our God is an Awesome God". One of my favorite aspects of the classroom environment is the addition of music and dance throughout the day. I think it helps engage all students and creates an exciting environment—the idea that learning is FUN! This is one of the ideas I hope to bring back and use in my future classrooms.
