Today was the day that we had been anxiously waiting for. Our trip to Queeny Park was included in our trip. We would be staying at the Mwenya Safari Lodge (a five star-resort) and engage in a boat launch to see many of the animals in the English Channel. It was about a three hour drive from Fort Portal, where we went through Kasese where Squirky did some of her research. On the way, we stopped at the equator and took lots of pictures with one leg in, one leg out. Once we arrived at Queeny Park, we had some lunch, swam in the pool, and went on our boat launch. We saw hippos, elephants, crocodiles, buffalos, birds, snakes, and other animals. It was a wonderful experience to see these animals in their natural habitats.
After the boat launch, we had some downtime which was spent at the pool and preparing for dinner. Dinner was a three course meal served over candlelight. MmmMmmmmmMmmm. I ordered steak and it turned out Cassie's tilapia was the best food. Am I now All of us students, stayed in a cottage with three deluxe rooms, a kitchen, tv, and a sitting area. We all decided, along with the nursing professor, that we wanted to go on a game drive the next morning. We had tea, coffee, and muffins in the lobby at 6am and then we were off. The vehicle that we were in , allowed us to sit on top of the car as we drove. The only problem - you were COVERED in "safari powder" by the end of the trip. Our guide told us that it was not called dirt, but safari powder. We saw a lion, leopard, monkeys, hyenas, kob, birds, and other animals. The game drive lasted about 4 hours and we were lucky enough to see all of those animals. After the game drive, we headed back to Fort Portal where we were picked up to go back to Kyarusozi. If only we could have stayed ONE more night in Queeny Park! After the weekend of traveling, it was nice to be "home" at the convent with the Sisters. We missed playing with the neighborhood kids who missed us even more.
