Well, I've just finished cramming a bunch of stuff into my suitcase for the big Whistler trip this week…mostly ski gear and stuff I can do without for next few weeks. It will be much easier to take my stuff up in a couple of trips considering I'll be moving it all on my own and have acquired a remarkable amount of "stuff" since my arrival in Vancouver! It was surprisingly sad getting all packed up, and brought up again the thought that I've been desperately trying to avoid in my own mind the past couple of weeks. That being that it's nearly time to say goodbye to my Euro crew =(
It was Monica's birthday on Friday and we got her a beautiful frame with a photo of us all from one of the first nights we ever went out all together (the biggest mystery about this photo is who actually took it…haha). After much deliberation (much MUCH deliberation and many MANY text messages back and forth!) about what to do for her birthday we eventually decided to pay a visit to The Modern is Gastown. So I hopped on the skytrain and went off to do a very generous drinks run to the for about 5 people and Lougheed…the lady in the liquor store looked at me with raised eyebrows and my arms ached all the way home. It was one of the few times I've really wished I could just hop in a car and drive! Particularly when I went a couple of stations in the wrong direction on the skytrain before realising I was somewhere out near Surrey and that that didn't seem right at all…haha
We all met at Veronqiue's place around 5:30, and it's funny cause even though technically it's so early in the evening, it actually feels really late at night because it's already been dark for about an hour and a half! Anyway, we crammed more people than ever before into that tiny little Shell House room - me, Veronique, Monica, Jessie, Daniel, Luca, Christoph, Heiko, Dennis, Bernie, Mara…and then for a while Helle and her friend from Norway who's visiting, Kristin, were there as well…so that's 13 people, which, in combination with the music that we were playing would definitely have been classified as a "party" in the CA's terms haha
We headed down town around 8:30ish and stopped by the Modern which wasn't open until 10, but they did agree to put us on the guest list and let us in for half price because it was Monica's birthday! So we went up the street for a few drinks at a bar and then headed back down around 10. It was a really great night because up til now none of us have found a club that we really LOVE - you know, that plays good music, has a really nice, chic interior etc etc and the Modern definitely fit the bill. Plus we were in fabulous company as always so you really couldn't go wrong! They had a Saturday-night-fever-esque kinda dance floor, lit from the bottom (not quite multicoloured flashing lights but hey, I found it exciting nonetheless!) and GREAT music. One of those nights where every song is an "omg I love this song!" moment hehe Monica seemed to have a really great time, and soon after we arrived a whole bunch of other exchangers showed up, having previously been to snowboarding premier party that we made the executive decision not to attend - go us! Apparently it was all 13-year-old snowboarders in hoodies hahaha good call…
We left around 3ish (Veronique, Daniel, Luca and I) and found a little café nearby where I had the best turkey and cheese sandwich of my life - 5 hours of straight dancing can really make you appreciate a good toasted sandwich =D We managed to get onto a 135 night bus without having to wait too long (which is pretty much a miracle because they only run hourly and it's normally a very long, cold wait - particularly now it's November!) and then it was off to bed for us. Though I did have a nice little half hour chat with Jacob, a lovely Danish guy who lives on my floor. He was also just getting in from a night out and we sat in the common room and talked about all sorts of random things while I made tea! Hehe
The next day us girls met for brekky at around 11 and it reminded me very much of the episode in sex and the city the night after they go out on Staton Island…except that all of us were looking a little like Charlotte does in that episode! Haha I spent the day moleing/slothing and went for a stroll around campus in the afternoon. Up the top of convocation mall and at various places on the rooftops around campus there are plastic chairs randomly placed so you can just sit - it's a fantastic idea! I lay on the top of the building for about at hour, cloud watching, and it never ceases to amaze me how you can look off in one direction and see the city skyline and the coast and then turn around and there's mountains, right there!
That evening I got sushi from the little Japanese restaurant up at Cornerstone and the Sex and the City movie DVD and curled up in bed - SO satisfying =D Tonight I'm off to the see the new Bond movie with Helle, Kristin, and Veronique because the RHA managed to get a bunch of discounted tickets for only $2 each - hurrah for being a student!
