Wow! What a weekend that was! (haha alliteration much!) Friday night we had the international student's boat cruise around the city's harbour and I'm expecting something kinda like our Contiki boat cruise…you know, tiny little boat, no more than a hundred people…well! Turns out it was this huge party boat with a bar and a dance floor and there were several hundred of us on there! We got so lucky with the weather, cause there were huge, threatening clouds all over the harbour, but not a drop of rain, and the light when the sunset was amazing! We spent the first part of the cruise up on the top deck, drinking, socialising, taking glamorous photos etc etc but later on we hit the tiny d-floor downstairs in style to such classics as "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song". After we got off the boat we wandered around BC place stadium indecisively for a good 45 minutes or so whilst some of the Aussie girls tried to work out which would be the best plan of action to try and track down hot Norweigan boys before I finally decided I'd head home, seeing I was due on the bus to Whistler first thing in the morning.
Earlier that afternoon I'd stopped in at Jan Louise's place and dropped off my stuff and had dinner and a drink with her before heading down to meet the others at the harbour. So it was just a short trip up Main Street to her place where I found the pull out couch ready and waiting - honestly, could I be any more well looked after! I am one very lucky lady =)
The next morning I took the bus down to the Grey Hound station, before making the 2½ trip up to Whistler to meet Jesse. Again, amazing weather. The ride up to Whistler was unlike any of the other times I'd made that journey, and I got the most amazing views over the ocean and looking down onto all the Vancouver Islands. When I got there Jesse and I went for a wander through Creekside over to the condo he's been staying in over summer. Then we went over to Alto Lake, and because he is very well connected and knows people who work there, we got to take a canoe out for a paddle at no charge at all! Ah the joys of knowing people who know people…we paddled around for an hour or so looking at all the amazing lakeside cabins that cost ridiculous amounts of money. There was a teeny, tiny little shack (like shack as in plastic sheets instead of glass windows) at the water's edge that is apparently worth seven or eight million purely because of the land it's on!! So I quickly gave up hope of owning property there any time soon unless I win the lotto.
Later that arvo we went to a great little sushi place and I made a very poor attempt at learning to use chopsticks. After that we went for a wander up around the mountains to a place where you got a really great view down over the whole city. When darkness started to settle in we went back down to the village to sit out on the balcony at one of the bars right in the centre of town for a couple of drinks and some people watching. So all in all, pretty much your perfect day in Whistler! =)
On Sunday, after heading back down to Van, I spent the afternoon/evening at Jan Louise's place having a lovely time soaking up the sunshine. We sat outside in the garden with a cup of tea having a chat for several hours before settling in with a bottle of wine and a movie. We started out with some intellectual, art house movie about a bunch of people wandering around in a desert that we both soon decided we were far too tired to comprehend haha so we switched over to a good old Jude-Law-involved-in-infidelities-drama. Pretty much the perfect end to the perfect weekend! (Suffice it to say I got absolutely NO work done for uni, whatsoever! Haha) I fell fast asleep on the pull out couch before the end of the movie, and had one of the best sleeps I've had in months.
Yesterday I managed to have a chat to both Nomz and my Mum, which was great, whilst Dad and I continue to play voice message tag. I still find it a novelty though to pick up my voicemail messages though, not to mention any mail I get in my very own post box!! =O haha In the evening we had our first "floor event" and a bunch of my fellow floor 7 room mates and I went down to Gas Town to the Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner, which was super yummy and super cheap. Matt would absolutely adore this place. There's basically nothing but pasta on the menu, and it all comes served pretty plain and standard, PLUS you get ice-cream included afterwards! Perhaps he should look at bringing the franchise to Aus haha It was so nice to actually get to meet and properly get to know some of the people on my floor, who are a nice mix of local Canadians and international students.
So that brings me up to this morning…still no work done. Still having a great time! Haha It is however super foggy up here on the mountain today so I'm hoping that will keep distractions to a minimum and encourage me to get my butt into gear and at least do a little reading…after all, once Wednesday rolls around the fun begins again! =)
