OK…I need to invest in gloves. I'm finding it considerably difficult to type right now because it's just gone 8AM on Friday morning and I've been standing outside the Greyhound bus for about 15 minutes slowly (actually, not all that slowly) turning into an ice cube. I got up this morning around 5:30 to make the trek down town to the bus station, and was kinda amazed to hear music still pumping from somewhere inside my tower. Guess as I was beginning my day, others were just wrapping theirs up! Haha
I'm heading over to Peakview today first thing after I get into Whis so if I can manage to take some photos without looking like a total loser I will hehe After that I'm gonna go get my ski pass, my bus card, library card, pick up some groceries and head to the hostel - basically get myself all settled in. Then tomorrow morning I'll head to the turkey sale before I have my interview in the arvo…and somewhere in between all of this I'll squish in some study for midterms.
This week we've been under the pump at uni, midterms are just around the corner and it's a little tough cause I'm used to having a study break in the middle of semester to kinda catch your breath, catch up on things etc. and here there are no study breaks! Not before midterms, not before end of semester exams - you just go straight into them! So towards the start of the week I was feeling a little like omg omg omg - *hyperventilating* =P haha although that probably also had a lot to do with the fact that that was my day to cook dinner down in the town houses and it was one of the most frustrating experiences on my life…
The staff at safeway looked at me like I was insane when I asked them for beetroot, and apparently over here when a pumpkin is a butternut pumpkin, it in fact becomes a buttnut squash! And rocket - forget it…I may as well have been talking bout something to do with NASA. Then, I'm in my little kitchen-less room trying to get all the food ready, and was reminded of why a tiny little $2 knife just will not do for cutting a giant pumpkin (oh, I'm sorry - squash).
SO, by the time it got to my yoga class at the end of the day I was well and truly in need of some zen! Haha It's a great class though - I go with Jess, Erica, Helle, and Vernique, every Monday evening at 4:30. Makes me realise just how unflexible I've gotten, but that's OK, I'm gonna be totally flexi and strengthened come ski time! Oh yeah…Anyway, dinner ended up being OK and the girls all seemed to like the roast vege salad, despite it being short several vegetables and taking about a million years to cook! Lol
Wednesday, Jessie and Helle were back and we all caught up for dinner and they told us stories of all the crazy loonies they saw in LA haha typical LA…then on Thursday I went to see some of the 4th year grad film students' projects at the free theatre hour, which were pretty amazing. It's also been a pretty busy week round campus cause it's "convocation" ie. A fancy Canadian term for graduation. So there's been beautiful blue and red decorations all over convocation mall, and ceremonies going on all throughout the day. It's cute cause they have it outside, and it's not exactly balmy weather this time of year, so for all the guests they prove these big, warm, fuzzy blue and red blankets. I could really use one of those right now…
Last night I made a desperate attempt at getting some good quality study time in before I left, but no such luck…I was down in the dining hall getting tea and I ran into Jacob, one of the guys from my floor, who's originally from Denmark and is now here as in international student for the rest of his degree. So he started talking to me about the possibility of heading down to Mexico around Christmas time, and my mind starts ticking over this…and then of course I end up in my room googling cheap flight to Cancun, rather than memorizing the formula sheet for my stats exam! Haha I said to him "damnit Jacob, I was supposed to be being productive tonight", and he just said "what, you are being productive!" lol
Mmm I'm beginning to thaw…can't wait to buy me some warm clothes up in Whis! Soak up those rays of sunshine in Aus people and send them over to me telephathically - from spring in the valley to fall in the mountains!hehe
