Greetings from new home for the next four months!! I'm officially moved in to Rez and am loving it =) Orientation's been really full on this week but fortunately we've got the morning off today so I got a little bit of a sleep in (which I really needed cause I actually got kinda sick after my Saturday night shenanigans…worth it though! Haha). I'm staying in the Towers , which have 8 floors each and about 40 people on each floor. I'm in Tower C, Barbara Ray, on level 7, and omg how cool is this…in my building, each floor is decade themed ie. My floor is the seventies floor!!! Awesome much?? It was meant to be! (Nomi, I will totally spread the Solid Gold love to the far corners of the globe, I plan to have a Solid Gold party in my room, and everyone's invited! Lol) It's also a really cool floor to be on cause it's a "mature floor" ie. We're all pretty much 20yrs and older, so no annoying freshers =P hehe Plus the towers have some of the nicest rooms of all the campus accommodations because towers are quite new (stay tuned for groovy photos when the internet stops being lame!). There's a common room on our floor with a toaster, kettle, microwave, TV etc. and although most people will move in next week, I've met a couple of people on my floor and they all seem really nice!
We have a CA (Community Advisor) on each floor who kinda looks after us all if we have any problems and keeps up all in line, and I met ours (Sarah) right after I moved in and she seems lovely too. Move in was an absolute breeze because they had the whole football team there helping us take our bags up, so I literally had about 7 people walk me up to my room with my minimal luggage! Haha That afternoon we took a trip to Ikea (the largest Ikea in Canada!!!) and it was like seriously intense homewares overload!! Haha But I managed pick up a few groovy items to complete my home away from home. The only thing I need now is something to cover the hideous gray concrete wall - it's kinda like jail-house chic! Lol But I really can't complain cause some of the other residences on campus are much smaller and have bars on the windows!
Since then it's been go go go, with info sessions, and clan meetings, and ice-breakers and all of that sort of orientation-type stuff! Yesterday I had campus orientation with a group of people from my faculty and I met a whole bunch of really nice girls who are all Psych majors as well, some of whom are taking the same classes as me. This "clan" will keep in touch for the whole of the semester and we'll catch up regularly just to touch base and see how everyone's doing. Last night was really cool too because we all went down to Foggy Dew pub, just down the base of the mountain in Burnaby, and I got to know everyone a little better. Tonight we're headed down to Granville, and I actually have many options for what I might be doing…going to a sushi restaurant, a comedy club, the backpackers bar! Oh so many options! haha
Anyway, I'm beginning to get a sense of how flat out it's going to be this semester but wherever possible I'll keep on blogging so you guys are thoroughly updated on my super cool college life =P I'm missing you all and hope you're having a wonderful time back home (or abroad for my many fellow travellers!), for those of you in Aus, enjoy the sunshine of impending spring, you have no idea what a rarity that is over here!
