Saturday, as the Cat Empire say, "was messy in the best way possible" =D The evening anyway! During the day was just nice and pleasant, and I spent a few hours with Jessie wandering around the consignment and vintage stores on Main Street (it is vintage retro HEAVEN on that street!! I saw the most fabulous grey woollen onesie that I hard to try desperately to convince myself probably wasn't a necessary item at this stage in may life, *sigh*). We picked up a few things for our Halloween costumes, which wasn't hard because everywhere in Vancouver is Halloween mad at the moment. It's crazy - it's like Christmas back home. They've been advertising it for a month now, all the stores are decorated with pumpkins and skeletons, and the dollar stores are packed to the brim with costumes and fake blood etc etc the whole kit and kaboodle! We found Jessie some green hairspray (because last time she actually got green silly string - an easy mistake to make! Haha) and looked at creepy stick on scars. She's going as the Joker, and I'm pretty sure she'll have the coolest costume there. None of this wearing underwear and putting on animal ears and calling that a legitimate costume - uh, no thankyou. I mean c'mon are you kidding me?? It's the end of October!!! Those girls are gonna freeze their tiny, barely covered butts off!
That arvo I had a pretty sweet 20 minute power nap before getting ready to head down town to meet Veronique and the German boys at Dennis and Sebastian's apartment. That's a mighty long hour trek when a gal's wearing high heels, specially when there's a major league football game AND and ice hockey game AND two concerts on all on the same night, making it impossible to get a seat on the sky train! But I made it there OK and was pleasantly surprised to find that the guys had made us dinner, which made a seriously good change from dining hall food! They also had a couple of carefully carved Halloween pumpkins sitting on the dining table, complete with candles. We spent a couple of hours at the apartment before heading over to a bar on Cambie street to meet to rest of the gang to celebrate Kim and Jesse's birthdays. It's an awesome place that was packed with people and served super cheap drinks. So we hung out there for a while (and someone decided it would be a good idea to scull beer directly from the jug…yeeeeees…haha) before trekking (and I mean TREKKING) over to Yaletown to Bar None. Unfortunately, Yaletown being as swanky and presitigous as it is, barely any of us could actually get it cause they were letting people through at a rate of about 2 people every 15 minutes, and there were A LOT of us (plus I think quite a few of us were seriously questioning the need to pay an $18 cover charge for what would have ended up being about 2 hours in the club!). So we migrated across the street to another tiny bar that was closing in about 15 minutes! It was kinda a fizzling point…haha but despite this, it was actually a really good night and I was totally exhausted by that point anyway!
The next day I sat at my desk with my book in front of me, as though by some magical osmosis, mere proximity to my text book would somehow get the information into my head - this is naïve optimistic thinking! Haha So suffice it to say productivity was low that say. But I caught up with Jessie and Veronique for dinner in the Shell House kitchen that night, where we all commiserated on being equally unproductive that day! Don't know what I'd do without those girls…
