Well Contiki is all officially over and I'm missing my Contiki crew already!! =( Fortunately there's quite a few who'll be staying in Vancouver for at least a little while longer, and some who will actually be around for the next few months. Karaoke the other night was absolutely awesome - I felt the highlight of the evening was Daniel performing "Baby Got Back" not having to look at the words on the screen once, complete with ass-shaking dance moves! We totally owned the Banff backpacker's hostel that night…
Anyway, after Banff we basically just travelled back towards Vancouver with several stops along the way and a night in Vernon, which is down in the Okanagon Valley - BC's prime wine growing region. We had a little stop off in a tiny country town for special ice cream at a dairy farm, and I had maple syrup and walnut flavour in true Canadian spirit. There was also a beautiful fruit market across the road selling local fruit for next to nothing! So it was cherries and strawberries and raspberries galore =D We also watched this amazing movie on the coach, Into the Wild, true story about a young guy who decides to go off and live in the wilderness in Alaska all by himself for a while…quite incredible. So yeah not much to report in those few days expect that we did play a few pretty groovy coach games, one of which was a scavenger hunt in which each item had to be passed by every person on your side of the coach from the back to the front…and the last item was a person. Suffice it to say it's a good that Robbie's a very competent driver and it was a smooth road at that point haha
When we got back into Vancouver we had a couple of hours to get ourselves ready for our last big Contiki night out on the town. We went on a dinner cruise around the harbour, which was really nice, before heading out to a club that was "walking distance" from our hotel - according to Jordan. Who wasn't wearing heels! Haha despite my achy breaky feet it was a great last night, albeit bittersweet saying goodbye to a lot of my new friends. It's bizarre to think we'd only met 11 days before and already we felt so close and it was so sad to say goodbye =( but I guess that's what it's like when you're travelling…We went all out til 4ish then got up a few hours later to have brekky together before going our separate ways. I rolled into a cab, mumbled the directions to Jan Louise's house, then rolled out of the cab and into bed! Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeep…is not at all overrated.
The next day I went into town with Mum for a bit of a wander around and to go shopping for my college dorm!!! Aaaaaargh! =D We got sheets and towels and all that sort of mundane and yet somehow very exciting kind of stuff. Later that arvo I met up with my roomie, Victoria, for one last catch up before she heads off to Seattle. Then it was back home for another early night in anticipation of our early departure for Vancouver Island - 7:30AM, which my body clock is fairly strongly opposed to at the moment. I was totally stoked to find however that the sea plane company we were flying with offered complimentary coffee!! =D always stoked to get anything for free these days, so I had about three cups (silly) before take off. It was really awesome to fly over Vancouver although the teeny tinyness of the plane we were in made me a little nervous, luckily we got pretty got weather so we only got buffeted about a little bit. So now we've just checked into the Magnolia Hotel for the night and Mum and Jan Louise are just off planning our shenanigans for the day!
