It's a rainy Saturday arvo (I'm really gonna have to stop starting my entries off that way cause I'm pretty sureit's always gonna be a rainy ---day arvo from here on out! haha) and I'm sitting in Blenz coffee shop down town on the corner of Richards & Hastings St. I just went to see the BC Ballet's performance of Nine Frank Sinatra Songs and it was amazing! I paid only $30 for my ticket (hurrah for student rates!) and even though I was right at the back of the theatre I could see just fine. It was preceded by two other sections of dance, one that was quite classical and really pretty, and then a more contemporary piece that was really unusual but quite astounding to watch. The Sinatra section was just magic. I loved every song (and knew every word in every line!) and the style of ballet was a little like ballroom…just gorgeous.
Although when I woke up today I have to say that going to the ballet was the last thing I felt like doing…haha Last night I went with my floor, the C7 crew, to a Rubix Cube party on campus at the pub. A few of the girls had gone to an op shop a little earlier in the day to pick us up some super bright, easily disposable items of clothing. I couldn't go cause I had to get a little study done, but I told them "you've got ten bucks, and make it hideous!" hehe. I ended up with a high wasted bright orange skirt, which was far too sexy to trade out so I made sure I held onto that one throughout the night, though it was coveted by every other aspiring orange rubix cuber in the pub! We started out with a few pre-drinks in the common room - "non-alcoholic" of course =l I feel kinda sorry for our CAs because they know that we're a mature floor so obviously we are all legally able to drink but there's all sorts of rules about them not being able to see us with open alcohol and they have to be really strict about it, which is fair enough. But they're students, and they're our age too so it means they kinda miss out on hanging out with us when we go to those sorts of events.
After taking many a sexy photo (Lunging photo! 80s work out photo! Boy band photo! Haha) we walked on over to the pub - really REALLY handy living 2 minutes walk from your pub I'll tell you that! And there we drank, danced, and were merry! It was really cool to hang out with the people from my floor a little more because it's sometimes hard to get time to spend with all the cool people here. There's my Euro crew, and the Aussie girls, the Canadians I know, other exchangers, my floor etc etc and only 14 weeks!! In the wee hours of the morning we headed home and ate chips from the most giant bag of chips I have ever seen. Really. It was massive. Like I could have fit my head inside it, easily!
So this morning I sat in the dining hall with my custom made omelette (my second favourite dining hall discovery, only featured on Saturdays and Sundays and only narrowly beaten by the wild greens! =P) Jack Johnson playing on the ipod, and tried to concentrate on not letting my head explode. Pretty sure I owe that to the bright blue drink Jesse bought me. That's just not right! I went over to visit Piek (Veronique) - our Euro crew is a little smaller this weekend cause Jessie and Helle are down in LA. We all had dinner together on Thursday night before they left and it was oddly sad to have to say goodbye to them, and that's only for 5 days! Then I thought about them leaving in a couple of months from now…=( It's one of the downsides of travelling, when you meet these amazing people and become such good friends so fast only to have to say goodbye to them so much sooner than you'd like. But I'm sure it won't be long til we're all reunited again…the world seems so big and yet somehow simultaneously so very very teeny tiny.
Oo hey just before I go, some update on my Whis escapades…I spent Friday morning reeling off resume after resume after resume in preparation for my trip up next week and got a pretty immediate response from one of the companies so I have an interview next Friday! It's a nannying/babysitting kinda company so I'm thinking that could be a pretty good way to go along with some event catering or something else that lets me be pretty flexible with my time. After all, there'll be so many exciting visits happening - Matty's definitely coming now, arriving in early January, and Dad will be over to see me sometime in February, plus hopefully I'll get to spend some time with Lou when she's over here…aaah, so much to look forward to…every single day! =)
