Travelling south down the Coromandel Peninsula, we arrived at our second road trip destination, Whangamata. On the way we stopped at Hot Water Beach, which is a small beach that when it is low tide, you can dig yourself a hole to sit in on the beach and due to hot springs, the water that comes in from the sea is hot and you can have your own personal spa on the beach! Unfortunately for us it wasn't low tide till the evening, but we still got to see some pretty nice scenery. At Whangamata we spent our one day here on the beach and in the town centre. As its summer here in New Zealand, the Coromandel Bay of Plenty is a popular choice for most Kiwi's to come on holiday and Whangamata was no exception. Infact shortly after we set up our tent, the campsite was fully booked up and the beach was very busy. The town is very small and much like a local town for local people, but we felt welcomed and enjoyed our short time here.
