The longest drive so far (over 2 hours) brought us to Palmerston North, which is south on the north island and about 140km from Wellington and the ferry terminals that will take us to the south island. Palmerston North is considered as quite a large city in New Zealand with approximately 75,000 people, we arrived on a Saturday and the town was very quiet! Something we have come to get used to in New Zealand is the lack of people and no hussle and bussle even in the largest cities. With no single must see attraction here we spent our two days just exploring the town and hanging around our campsite. On Sunday we went for a early morning swim at the local swimming baths and what should have been a casual swim for us both soon turned into diving boards and large floats for Lee. (Well you never expected him just to swim did you?) We seen a notice that today there was going to be a world record attempt in the city square at the most random thing….to have the most people playing Monopoly at once. We went to take a look but apart from 10-15 families playing, not much else was happening. I don’t think it will make the Guinness Book of Records quite yet! Hitting the road early tomorrow for our last stop on the north island, Wellington.
