Days 48 and 49. Had a walk on Town Beach, Port Samson (not dog friendly)! while RM and Elle revisited the wharf. Then we packed up and drove south, stopping for the night at Barradale Rest Area, on the Yannarie River. Sadly, the mighty looking river is empty right now but the area is still pretty. Plenty of room to camp and for a dog to run around. Happily no bindieyes (sic). Our pleasant neighbors from deGrey River, Fred and Margaret, from the Sunshine Coast, pulled in near us here. They had come from Onslow. RM bumped into them at the tavern at Point Samson as well. Fred assured us they were not stalking us.
On day 49, 7 weeks on the road, and a short drive down the road, we pulled up at Bullara Station, our camp for 2 nights while we explore Exmouth. The owners and staff are very welcoming. The station homestead was built in about 1906, has Wunderlich pressed metal sheeting inside. We have the use of an open air shower and toilet here! I had a shower and washed my hair under the sun with a gentle breeze blowing. It was delightful after the 30 degree heat today. Then we were visited at our campsite by the resident 35 year old pony, who ate Elle's dinner bits and RMs orange including the peel. She was joined by two other horses. Clearly they are adept at scrounging from the guests.
Later, we joined our fellow campers, station owners and station workers around the camp fire. Geoff played the didgeridoo a bit. We met up with a couple, Peter and Collette, from Flynn in the ACT. We have acquaintances in common.
