My Camino Journey
So today is the second last day of my journey to Santiago, and I kind of can't really believe that I have made it to this point. When I first decided to walk the Camino I honestly thought there was a good chance that I wouldn't complete it. I 100% hoped that I would but to be now on the final stage it almost feels surreal. Today was an easy walk, we decided to spoil ourselves and send our packs forward again so we could really just enjoy the last days walk before we reached Santiago. Now that we are so close the track is much busier with loads of 100km pilgrims with much fresher legs than ours, but I truly believe they have missed out on so much that the Camino has to offer just by doing only the last 100kms. Sonia and I were talking about it today that if in fact you only did the last 100km your perspective of the Camino would be totally different to mine... You would assume it was always busy, that the albergues had all the mod cons and that all of Spain was covered with cattle farms, when in reality the Camino can be extremely lonely, some days I have spent hours walking without seeing another person. The Albergues can be so **** that you wouldn't let you dog stay there and I have walked paths through wheat fields, vineyards, abandon villages, spooky forest plantations and industrial areas which look just like they do at home. But the time you get to this point it really is the small things you appreciate, like showers with hooks so you can hang your clothes, toilet paper and the feeling of fresh socks.... I have loved every minute of my amazing adventure and I know I have become a more independent person from this. Tomorrow I will walk into Santiago proud of my accomplishment, looking forward to what the future holds for me knowing that I am able to deal with whatever life throws my way.
