My Camino Journey
Today was a originally 19.3km but had an alternate route which followed the river instead of the road. Silas and I decided to take this route as it would be nicer to look at as well as offering more shelter from the sun. Today the weather was warming up again and would be well in the high 20's by lunchtime. Still being on the Meseta means that it is relatively flat walking, starting out of town along the road which was a little boring to start the day. After 3km we hit the scenic route and started following the river which was much nicer. At Villovieco we had our first coffee stop this tiny town has a population of just 100, which is certainly not the smallest town I have passed through, but has some interesting Camino artefacts. As we arrive at our coffee stop Rodney was there and greeted us with an update on his sore ankle, and how he thinks he will maybe catch the train to Leon after all.... He has been saying This for the last 3 days, but continues to walk, I am not sure why but maybe he has FOMO hehe Back on the path we covered another 6.5km to our next stop, which was a lovely modern cafe, I just had a coke and a muesli bar while the boys enjoyed muscles with tomato and herb mix on them. After this stop we were back on the normal Camino trail, which unfortunately run along side the busy road. It was now really starting to heat up, I had put sunscreen on at the last spot and was grateful because I was sure I was going to get burnt, we had 5.3km to go along side the road without any shelter, I was starting to get hungry and just focused and got the last couple of kms done. Once in town we quickly found an Albergue which used to be a boarding school and is the only place I have stayed so far that hasn't has bunk beds. The nuns that run it are old school but really lovely and as fate would have it, Sonia and Phil are also here for the night. After a quick shower to freshen up Silas and I wander around town, check out the church and find a bar to have something to eat and a drink, we have to wait till 5pm for the supermacado to open so we can stock up on supplies for tomorrow which is a 26.8km day with the first stop that will have a shop being at the 17km mark..... I had dinner with Sonia, Phil and Ralph. We all get on so well just like we have been friends for years... It is really nice, we had wine and a lot of laughs. After dinner we decided that we would all meet at 6am and walk together tomorrow.... I think it is going to be a full day of 26km of laughter..... At least we will get an ab workout as well as a leg work out... Sorry there is only 1 video for today, my phone was dead and I couldn't take any pictures...
