At last We have arrived in Pokhara. The last few days in Kathmandu were very interesting, the sights, sounds and smells have to be experienced you could never imagine them thats for sure
We visited Nepals only zoo, it was a really small affair but the animals were kept in better conditions than I had expected.
We have done a lot of walking, exploring side streets and court yards off the beaten track that I do not think see a lot of westerners. We crossed the rivers on several occasions, the stench was appalling even the locals covered their mouths when crossing.
I was shocked by the amount of plastic bags and bottles clogging up the rivers causing them to become stagnant. People were living in appalling conditions on the river bank It is beyond me how they survive and also why is this happening in the 21st century?
I have lost count of the number of times that I have felt ashamed of myself for looking away and ignoring some poor starving destitute soul clutching at my trouser leg.
The journey to Pokhara was a 7 1/2 hour bus ride along the only highway from Kathmandu. I am sure it has featured on world's most dangerous roads! On the return journey I am going to sit on the right hand side so that I can not see the sheer drop from the road side.
On arriving in Pokhara it seemed so peaceful after the constant car and motorcycle horns and madness that is Kathmandu.
Our guest house is clean and tidy but does not have a generator so when the electricity goes off for hours at a time we cannot have a hot shower or charge anything.
Today we went for along hike up hill to see the World Peace Pagoda, We had to go through a small village and farm land, kept getting hassled by small children wanting to be your guide for lots of money.
It was really tiring so going to relax this evening.
