After all the rain yesterday, we were reduced to playing cards in our room all afternoon, so for a treat we decided to visit a restaurant that puts on a culture song and dance show. We had entertainment for a couple of hours, good food and drinks plus dessert for a change for about £8.twice what we normally spend.
Its so cold in the evenings and all the restaurants have open fronts with a fire pit in the middle, so have to make sure you get there early enough to grab table by the fire, same applies for breakfast, only trouble is that you end up smelling like a bonfire. Every evening people have little fires on the edge of the pavement by the road and gather round, even our landlord has a fire outside which his family gather around with the dog.
We seem to get longer power cuts here than in Kathmandu, so Rays tea intake has been greatly reduced but he seems to be coping lol.
Today started off really misty, so we postponed our trip to Begnas lake again and decided to walk to old Pokhara and old bazaar area. While walking the mist cleared and we had an amazing view of the mountains, shame about all the litter scattered around us, yet another stream clogged up!
We found ourselves in the old bazaar area where we met a charming young australian girl who was lost and decided to tag along with us. We saw silver and goldsmiths, tailors and engineers all at work. Was facinated to find shops selling old treadle sewing machines, the sort we throw away, but if someone can learn to use it they could support there family.
On the way back discovered a huge fruit, veg and clothes market it was massive, kept getting strange looks as not many westerners walk this far up.
We moved rooms the other day to a much nicer room, only draw back is that we only get wi fi outside and its bloody cold in evening, so not sending as many e mails as l probably should.
