It has been a wonderful weekend, although there is a definite chill in the air - I am steadily wearing more and more layers each morning, but the sun still shines, so all is well! Saturday afternoon I did some shopping (becoming less and less fun as my bank account shrinks!) before heading to an au pairs apartment for dinner with some other au pairs who I'd never met before. We had a beautiful dinner and all ended staying the night as it got too late to take the metro home. When I was walking home at 7:30 the next morning it was a chilly seven degrees! After a quick shower and watching some of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (I like to keep a french theme with my movies) I headed to the Marais area to visit the Victor Hugo museum with some friends but managed to have a look around one of my favourite book stores before meeting them. Quite coincidentally I bought the novel by Victor Hugo of The Hunchback of Notre Dame in French - only to suddenly realise after I had bought it that I was going to the Victor Hugo museum today AND that I had watched the movie this morning - some very powerful subconscious choices going on there! After visiting the museum, which is the apartment Victor Hugo lived in while in Paris but strangely much of it is decorated with wall panelling and furniture taken from the house of his mistress (not sure how his wife would feel about that), we headed to get some of the felafel which the quatier (it is the Jewish area) is well known for - delicious as usual! We then spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around Montmartre where at a small market I found a French recipe book written in the late 1800's with inscriptions from 1898! It is not in the best condition but combining my love for history and cooking as well as being in French it was well worth the 20 euros to me! Not just an ordinary cook book it actually details almost every single method of preparing every single item of food/drink so will make for wonderful reading! However when I was buying the book I managed to drop my wallet and break the top of a teapot that was part of a beautiful set... oops! Hoping it wasn't too expensive, but after apologising profusely, I made a quick getaway! After grabbing some delicious smoothies (the first time since I left home I've had a blueberry smoothie) I headed to meet some other au pairs to see a movie - there is a cinema in Paris where tickets are only 4€90 - so around $7 for everyone under 26! I can't believe anyone can say that this is an expensive city to live in! All in all, a beautiful weekend :)
