Today I returned to Thimphu!
I left my home the day before yesterday, Thursday, in the afternoon, drove to Copenhagen to see Oliver, my son, who has recently moved there. At 9 o'clock pm. I was at the airport, had checked in and was ready to go. I sat reading at the gate when my colleague, Steffen Møller Andersen, who is going to teach trainers from the automobile institutes here in Bhutan (same project as me) came up to me and said "Hi". He had come by train. We got seats next to each other and talked and slept and ate all the way to Bangkok.
It was very hot coming from Denmark to Bangkok and it was humid also, so we were warm enough in our Danish winter boots and heavy jackets ;-) After standing in line at the passport control, waiting for our luggage and finding our way to exit no. 4 we finally found the shuttle bus to our airport hotel, which turned out to be really nice. Travelling through time zones is messing up the body's internal clock and even though we slept a little on the plane we were still tired, so we had some very nice Thai food at one of the hotel's 4 restaurants, took a quick walk around the hotel and went to bed. In Thailand it was 7 pm - Danish time 1 pm - so it was a strange time to sleep but I fell asleep rather fast. I woke up at 9.45 pm because the phone rang - wrong number - thank you so much! I managed to go back to sleep but at 1.30 am I was wide awake and decided to take a bath and read my book until 4 am when we were supposed to go to the airport again.
Carsten was waiting for us in Paro - it was really good to see him again and he told us all the news from the project and from the Ministry in the car to Thimphu.
It is almost spring here in Bhutan - the trees have big buds and some have leaves already. It is still cold mornings and nights but during the day it is really wonderful thanks to the sun. And Thimphu looks the same as in November/December. It feels familiar to be here.
In the evening the Internet went on a strike and Carsten, Steffen and I went to Taj Tashi and had dinner and a fantastic chocolate cake! But I still couldn't get online when we returned to Bhutan Suites later in the night.
Now I am starting to think about my work here - I am going to teach 15 Master Trainers for 15 days and I don't know who they are yet - it will be very exciting to go to the Ministry on Monday and talk to Norbu Dema, and 2 times Karma about it!
