24. november
I woke up feeling good today - nice and warm ;-) After breakfast I decided to wear my other kira jacket to work - the green one - and the colors looked really nice. I also managed to put on the kira myself again.
Today I was working on the framework and outlines of the course I am going to deliver and then Carsten came by this morning. I had a couple of questions for him - like who do you cc your mails to if you want to do it right? Every time I get an e-mail from one of my counterparts, I can see that they cc'ed a lot of people. Another thing that is very different is that everybody has their own small printer - they don't have a big one to share! I think it has got something to do with their system, but it looks strange. Whenever I need to print something I'll e-mail it to Kinley, who is patient and kind no matter how much I send! Then she prints it on her printer and gives it to me.
Carsten and I agreed to have lunch together at Khang, which is close by - that is I had lunch, a tuna sandwich, and Carsten had a cup of coffee - poor Carsten - he has caught a bad cold!
It turns out that here you cc several persons every time you send out even a draft for further discussion and preparation! Wow, I think Niels Petterson at home would go nuts if I was to cc him as much as here ;-) They must get a lot of unimportant mails! But well, when in Rome, do as the Romans do!
After (my) lunch I went with Carsten to see where his office is and it is very close to where I am working so now I can find him easily ;-) I met his neighbor, Mr. Mizuno from Japan who is also working at the ministry designing courses in electricity for the trainers at the technical colleges. This is his third year here in Bhutan. He got my cell phone number and will call me one day when he gets a little time for a talk about teaching trainers. Yes, this is a very international work place!
Carsten had a couple of Danish novels in his office and offered me one of them. I didn't hesitate - he had one of Ken Follet's books - one that I haven't heard (mp3) driving to and fro work in Denmark, so I quickly grabbed that and now I am looking forward to the weekend ;-)
I wrote more during the afternoon and suddenly it was 4 pm - time to go home. I stood up and my kira dropped to the floor! I was lucky that nobody looked my way at that moment. That would have been SO embarrassing! I picked it up quickly, wrapped it around me and tip-toed to the toilet and succeeded in putting it on one more time - tomorrow I must remember to tie the belt very tight. The belt is just a long piece of cloth that you tie around the top of the skirt and I learned that I have to check it every now or then. Or maybe buy a real belt to put on ;-)
Coming home to Khang I ordered some warm food for 18.30 - soup, rice and fried vegetables and went to relax for a little while. Mr. Kaka, the kind and smiling manager of the restaurant (I think - I am not sure of his title) offered me a cup of tea before dinner, which I accepted. He gave me a Bhutanese herbal tea which tasted really good, so I asked him what is was. It was called Tsheringma Tea (I had him write the name down), which mean "long life" and he claimed that it could cure everything …. except a broken heart :-) Of course I googled it and you can do the same but here is a short description of it: http://www.sherpaexports.com/2008/products/herbal-tea-tsheringma.html
I am definitely going to buy some of it to take home! Bhutan has a lot of natural medicines made of herbs - I love Bhutan more and more!
