I worked hard this morning trying to finish the last tasks before I am leaving on Saturday. I sent out the vision, mission and organization for the Gelephu Centre - I will make a presentation on this on Friday. And I am hoping to finish the job descriptions for master trainers and pedagogical counselors before Friday as well.
I had lunch with Carsten today at the Khang Recidensy - well like last time I had lunch and Carsten had some coffee ;-) We talked about all the dogs in Thimphu and Carsten told me that some people complained about the dogs - they make a lot of noise at night and they are EVERYWHERE. So one day the government decided to make a "concentration camp" for them a little outside Thimphu. They have a guy catching the dogs and taking them to this camp and here they feed them and give them a good life. Unfortunately the dogs dig themselves out of the place and run back to town so I guess the dog catcher has a full time job ;-) The dogs are very kind though - I never met one that was threatening yet - but they are sleeping everywhere during the day - sometimes in the middle of the street. The Bhutanese people never hurt a living creature so they drive around them. I took a lot of pictures of the dogs in Thimphu.
At dinner tonight Mr. Kaka told me that the monastery I visited, Changangkha Lhakhang, is a very sacred place and that this is the place parents take their newborn children to be blessed. Everybody born in Thimphu has been blessed there he claimed. And if small children don't sleep well or aren't feeling good they are also taken to this monastery together with some gifts like food and the monks bless the child again. And at night they sleep like innocent babies.
The Internet is terribly unstable at the moment. Sometimes I can't access it at all - it is very annoying. So this is one more thing to look forward to when coming home: an Internet connection that works and is faster than this one :-)
