A very cold morning - today I could see my own breath when walking to the Ministry and everybody is wearing jackets now - but still they often wear sandals and no socks!
I worked on the Gelehu Centre today and had a meeting with Carsten about it. That helped me move forward with it. People tell me that it is very attractive to become a civil servant and work for the Ministries. Basically because then you have a safe job and won't get fired. I guess it was like this in Denmark 50 years ago - I remember my parents talking about safe jobs with pensions at that time! Many people would probably expect that women have less freedom and education than men in a country like Bhutan. This is not true. Women are educated on equal terms with men and normally they inherit instead of the men! At the Ministry I work with several young women - even though I think there ARE more men than women.
I went to the hotel for lunch today and had a tuna sandwich. On my way home I passed a small groups of kids playing and one of them turned to me, waved and said: "Hi". I said "Hi" back and he looked happy. Here it is still interesting for little kids to greet the foreigners. There are not so many of us, I guess and they are proud that they know the English words :-)
On my way home this afternoon I made a discovery: now I know where the dog poo is!!!! Don't ever walk in the grass next to the road!
I took a picture of Mr. Kaka today and the very kind and smiling guy from the reception - it is funny because they smile all the time when we talk, but when I take their pictures they try to look very serious. Maybe that is the way they do it here. I also got a new Facebook friend today - Ms. Sonam Om from the restaurant. She is also extremely kind and caring and I think it is nice that I can keep in contact with her now.
And tonight the Internet was SOOOOO slow in Thimphu that I could hardly open any webpage - I felt disconnected from the world!
