Sunday morning means bathtub to me now! I really enjoy floating in the warm water and it is becoming a nice habit ;-)
I looked out of the window this morning and was surprised to see the clouds almost outside my window. The tops of the mountains were not visible at all - they were covered in clouds. It looked pretty though.
Once again I went downtown Thimphu because I wanted to buy the rest of the things I am taking home this time around. I only have 5 more days here then I'll be on my way back to Denmark early Saturday morning. And since I am working Monday - Friday today was the best choice for purchases. I am starting to look forward to coming home. I am sure everything is Christmas at home now, while here in this Buddhist country there is not one single Christmas light or cute little elf or a Santa Claus! I am also thinking of the interesting calendar gifts at the office - mmmm - save one for me ;-)
Walking down the line of art craft huts is not a problem. Entering a shop to look at things is not a problem either. I like it! When you have tried buying things in India or Turkey this is a big difference! In India, Turkey and other places people shout at you, almost drag you into their shops and tell you that everything is: "Billigere end Bilka!" Here it is not like that. You might get a "Hello Ma'am" or a "Good morning" and that is all. You can look, touch, ask for prices and walk out again without anybody hanging at your arm. It is great! Sometimes you can bargain about prices but some shops have fixed prices. A few shops accept Visa cards but most do not and cash is the best way of paying.
There is one thing I don't like about Thimphu - and probably all other towns as well -and that is the spitting on the sidewalks, streets, tiles - everywhere. A lot of people chew the doma nut and afterwards they spit out the red saliva so it is all over the place - took a few pictures ;-)
Yesterday at the monastery I saw a cat - the first one I have seen here! But dogs are everywhere! They lie down on the streets, they sleep on the pavement, they cross the street all the time - but it funny that I have never seen one single dog poo anywhere ??? Maybe the dogs go somewhere else or somebody comes around and removes them?
I have also noticed how the women carry their small kids on the back - they don't use a baby carrier but a scarf that they tie around the baby and themselves. They seem to be safe enough but this would probably be labeled child abuse in Denmark because of the risk that the kid should fall out ;-)
I had lunch at the café where Lasse and I got the very nice cakes. They serve good food in my opinion - a very nice cheese sandwich with tomato, fries and some raw salad and a cup of tea: 125 NU (13,50 kr. = 1.8 Euro).
Then I spent the rest of the afternoon reading and had dinner at the hotel at 7 pm. A very nice weekend - in a week from now I'll be back home!
